Liturgical Ministries
The Church earnestly desires that all the faithful be led to that full, conscious, and active participation in the liturgical celebrations called for by the very nature of the liturgy itself (Constitution on the Liturgy, art. 14). In the body of Christ there exists a wonderful variety of ministries, which are especially evident when we gather around the altar to worship God. By virtue of our baptism in Christ some of us are called to serve as ministers of the liturgical assembly. Among the liturgical ministries exercised by lay persons are those of altar server (acolyte), sacristan, musician, usher (or minister of hospitality), lector and extraordinary minister of holy communion.
